The Orcish Rebellion

After the fall of the Wyrms, orcs and gnomes were left without masters or purpose. While some of the more zealous factions in the forest and desert pushed for their extermination, the Phoenix ordered that they be spared. The constructs were allowed to establish settlements in an area that had been reduced to a blasted wasteland during the war. Most traders refused to enter the wasteland, leaving its inhabitants to fend for themselves.

After several decades of this treatment, most orcs and gnomes were understandably at a loss for legitimate options. Many turned to crime as the only visible means of making a life for themselves. Merchant vessels heading to the islands began to run into trouble with Orcish pirates, while gnomes managed to find their way into the underbellies of the major cities, and several began to establish themselves as major underworld figures.

In the year 65 AIII, a strike team from Mornbar entered the wasteland and utterly obliterated a cluster of small border villages. While Alilei denied knowledge of the attack, the residents were furious. Orcs and Gnomes across Sanctum forged a teeth-clenched alliance against the other races. Using every weapon at their disposal, they began to launch attacks against every other nation on Sanctum from within and without while demanding that they be afforded treatment equal to that given to the four unmodified races. They were eventually able to cow leaders of the other nations into ending legal discrimination, but cultural prejudice against them only intensified.
